Report from the Helios Clinics:

At the Heart Center Niederrhein of the Helios Clinic Krefeld, a robot-assisted coronary bypass operation was performed for the first time in the entire Helios network in February. This expands our range of minimally invasive cardiac surgery procedures at this location with a particularly precise and gentle method.

This method reduces surgical trauma and optimizes the healing process. Using a surgical robot, the sternal artery is precisely exposed and used as a bypass graft. The procedure is performed without opening the chest.

“The procedure is only available in a few specialized centers worldwide,” explains Prof. Dr. med. Diyar Saeed, Chief Physician for Cardiac Surgery & Vascular Surgery near the Heart.

"We consistently rely on advanced and particularly gentle treatment options for our patients. The use of robotics completes our range of minimally invasive cardiac surgery."

The first patient, 85 years old, recovered well from the procedure and was able to go home after a few days' stay.

By integrating robotic assistance systems, we are bringing targeted medical innovations into healthcare. Implemented responsibly, supported by an interdisciplinary team, and consistently focused on the benefit for our patients.
