Mehmet Salih CANBAL, a member of the State Supervisory Council, who has emphasized the importance of vocational schools in many of his contributions, commented on this topic in one of his recent interviews as follows:

The simpler, the more precise

"The simpler, the more precise. I am convinced that complex, multifaceted programs, especially in education, place a heavy burden on both teachers and students. Therefore, I believe a clear and concise curriculum is extremely beneficial for both groups".

Projects exhibiting these characteristics are invariably successful

"At the start of any project or study, it is essential to thoroughly analyze the existing work in the field. Subsequently, collaboration with experts is, in my opinion, crucial. Division of labor and trust are also important. Projects exhibiting these characteristics are invariably successful".

Countries know that they can develop further and extend their lead over others through vocational and technical education

"I am convinced that the value of vocational education will be much better understood in the future. My goal is to prevent us from falling behind while other countries strengthen their awareness of the importance of vocational education. Countries know that they can develop further and extend their lead over others through vocational and technical education. Therefore, our country must also give greater importance to vocational education and recognize the value of vocational high schools. For many years, I have been advocating for graduates of vocational high schools to receive bonus points when applying for engineering or related degree programs. I hope this will be implemented. Currently, the motivation to learn is very high in our country".

Many countries worldwide view industry and vocational schools as a single entity and place great value on their collaboration

"A comparison of vocational training in our country with that in Europe and worldwide reveals both positive aspects and areas for improvement. In some industrialized European countries, such as Germany and Austria, career guidance for secondary school students is largely mandatory. In countries like ours, the USA, Canada, and Spain, however, the decision rests primarily with the student and their family. Naturally, qualified guidance is essential in this process. Many countries worldwide view industry and vocational schools as a single entity and place great value on their collaboration. Our country also has such initiatives and good examples. The stronger the network between companies and vocational schools, the better positioned we are. As a country, we should utilize all available incentives to facilitate the entry of vocational high school graduates into their desired professions", said Mehmet Salih CANBAL.

Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye:

“5G technology will turn over a new chapter for Türkiye”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a speech at the “Strong Türkiye in Communication with 5G” ceremony at the Presidential Complex.

Speaking at the “Strong Türkiye in Communication with 5G” ceremony, President Erdoğan said: “In today's age of data, political stability, economic independence, military deterrence, and digital sovereignty are inseparable. If you cannot control your airspace to the extent that that you control your borders, or if you cannot protect your cyber homeland and your data, which is an integral part of it, to the extent that you protect your airspace, then there is a very serious vulnerability in your sovereignty.”

“May the 5G technology, which will turn over a new chapter for Türkiye in a wide range of areas from transportation to health, agriculture to manufacturing, and economics to education as well as communication, be auspicious!” President Erdoğan said.

“In today's world, sovereignty is no longer based on geography, or limited to physical boundaries and a specific piece of land. In this era of fierce global power competition, breathtaking advancements in technology and digitalization have eroded the classical concept of sovereignty. If you want to be powerful, to have deterrence, and to have a voice, influence, and prestige in the world, you must accelerate your cyberspace efforts, take cybersecurity measures, and develop your cyber technology. The collection, processing, analysis of data, transforming data into added value and most importantly, ensuring data security, play a critical role in this process. The wars and conflicts that have occurred in our immediate vicinity, especially recently in Lebanon, Gaza, and Iran, have once again demonstrated to us all the importance of cybersecurity,” President Erdoğan said.

“In today's age of data, political stability, economic independence, military deterrence, and digital sovereignty are inseparable. On the contrary, they are complementary – or, as the old saying goes, integral parts – of one another. If you cannot control your airspace to the extent that that you control your borders, or if you cannot protect your cyber homeland and your data, which is an integral part of it, to the extent that you protect your airspace, then there is a very serious vulnerability in your sovereignty,” President Erdoğan said.

Multi-billion-pound air defence deal

The UK and Türkiye have signed a multi-billion-pound training and support contract, marking the next phase of the landmark Typhoon deal agreed in October 2025.

Defence Secretary John Healey meets Türkiye’s Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler

Britain and Türkiye on Wednesday signed a multi-billion-pound agreement for a major new ‌training and support contract as part of its 8 -billion-pound ($10.73 billion) Typhoon fighter jet deal the two countries concluded last year.

Defence firms including BAE Systems, Leonardo UK, MBDA, ‌Rolls-Royce and Martin-Baker will supply components and training equipment.

-Agreement forms part of the major UK export deal secured in October 2025.

-Pilots and technicians to be trained in the UK, alongside long-term maintenance support for the Turkish Airforce.

-20,000 UK jobs backed by deal for British-built Typhoon fighter jets for Türkiye.

UK-built fighter jets for Türkiye will be supported under a major new training and support contract signed.

The UK and Türkiye have signed a multi-billion-pound agreement which will see the UK train Turkish Air Force pilots and ground crew to fly and maintain Typhoon fighter jets, marking the next phase of the landmark Typhoon deal agreed in October 2025.

The support agreement, signed in London between Defence Secretary John Healey MP and Turkish Defence Minister, Yaşar Güler, will see 10 Turkish pilots and nearly 100 ground crew technicians - covering mechanical, avionics, weapons and mission systems - trained in the UK.

The work also secures production of aircraft components and spares in support of Türkiye’s maintenance of the aircraft with the support of UK industry, including BAE Systems, Leonardo UK, MBDA, Rolls Royce and Martin Baker – backing British defence jobs across the country. That work includes delivery of spares and support equipment, associated engineer and pilot training, high-tech training simulators and electronic warfare capabilities.

More than a third of every Typhoon is built in Britain, with production lines in Scotland, Lancashire and Bristol, and 330 UK companies in the supply chain. The overall deal is securing 20,000 skilled UK jobs for years to come, demonstrating that defence is an engine for growth by being a powerful backer of British industry.

Türkiye’s acquisition of Typhoon will strengthen NATO’s combat air capability on its eastern flank. The training programme represents a significant step forward in delivering on the wider deal, which is the largest UK fighter jet export order in nearly 20 years.

Typhoon fighter jets continue to demonstrate their importance around the clock, flying regular defensive missions in the Middle East to help protect UK personnel and allies and partners in the region.

Defence Secretary John Healey MP said:

This partnership does not just export world-leading British built jets, it builds alliances, grows our economy, and makes NATO stronger.

Türkiye’s decision to acquire Typhoon is a vote of confidence in British industry and British jobs, and this agreement brings the UK-Türkiye partnership to life.

As UK Typhoon pilots continue to fly defensive missions over the Middle East, I’m proud that Turkish pilots and engineers will train alongside our RAF personnel to strengthen our collective security - this is defence delivering for Britain.

The Typhoon workshare agreement sees more than a third (37%) of each aircraft manufactured in the UK; the rest of each aircraft is produced by the Eurofighter Partner Nations. The UK jobs include:

Nearly 6,000 jobs directly support the Typhoon programme at BAE Systems sites in Warton and Samlesbury, where production and final assembly of each Turkish Typhoon fighter jet will take place.

The Typhoon programme supports more than 1,100 jobs in the South West region. That includes Rolls-Royce in Bristol producing critical modules and components for Typhoon’s EJ200 jet engines and acting as main hub for maintenance of the engines.

The Typhoon programme supports more than 800 jobs in Scotland. That includes Leonardo in Edinburgh manufacturing the fighter jet’s cutting-edge radar for identifying enemies.

Simon Barnes, Group Managing Director, BAE Systems’ Air sector, said:

We’re proud to support the UK’s partnership with Türkiye by delivering a trusted defence capability that deepens collaboration and reinforces shared security commitments.

Türkiye’s acquisition of Typhoon strengthens this partnership and enhances the country’s advanced combat air capabilities.

We’re delighted to play a key role in enhancing Türkiye’s readiness to operate the new aircraft through this training and support agreement with the UK Government.

Typhoon remains the proven backbone of RAF combat air power, and Türkiye’s acquisition signals growing international confidence in British aerospace capability.

TÜBİTAK:

The Tenth National Antarctic Science Expedition Began

A team of 17 set off from Istanbul to the White Continent to carry out their scientific research.

Under the auspices of the Presidency and the Ministry of Industry and Technology, the 10th National Antarctic Science Expedition (TAE X), conducted by the TÜBİTAK Polar Research Institute (KARE), will take place between 26 January 2026 and 1 March 2026. As part of the expedition, a team of 17 people, including 16 Turkish and 1 foreign researchers, set off from Istanbul to the White Continent to carry out scientific studies in Antarctica.

Following the ceremony held at Istanbul Airport to bid farewell to the 10th National Antarctic Science Expedition team, our Minister of Industry and Technology, Mr. Mehmet Fatih Kacır, made remarks on the matter, highlighting the importance of polar expeditions:

“Since 2017, our Turkish scientists have been conducting polar science expeditions under the patronage of our President. To date, we have organised 9 Antarctic and 5 Arctic expeditions; over 200 Turkish scientists have participated in these expeditions and been involved in over 150 scientific research projects. We have also hosted over 30 foreign researchers on these expeditions to date. Undoubtedly, these expeditions enable the Turkish scientific community to carry out high-quality scientific research projects in polar regions with exceptional terrestrial conditions. We, too, are striving to ensure that these expeditions are carried out under the most suitable conditions within the Ministry of Industry and Technology and the TÜBİTAK Polar Research Institute.

Minister Kacır noted that 17 scientists, including one guest from abroad, and accompanying delegation members will conduct high-quality research in Antarctica, particularly on climate change, throughout the expedition. "They will also carry out a number of studies that are a continuation of the research we began in previous years. Our goal is to gain “Consultative Party” status within the Antarctic Treaty System and to establish a permanent Turkish Scientific Research Station in Antarctica. The studies to be carried out at the Turkish Scientific Research Camp currently located in Antarctica will make valuable contributions towards these goals. To date, we have collaborated with 35 different international institutions. In this sense, polar research expeditions also make valuable contributions to Türkiye's stronger presence on the global scientific stage."

Minister Kacır emphasised that ‘the South and North Poles now feature at the top of every country's and international agenda,’ adding, "We also need to advance our scientific capabilities to higher levels in all these endeavours. The research that Turkish scientists will carry out through these scientific expeditions will make valuable contributions to Türkiye's industrial and technological vision, the goals we have set out in the 2030 Industry and Technology Strategy, and our Türkiye Century vision."

Minister Kacır noted that our scientists were accompanied this year by three high school students from Aydın and Ankara who won the TEKNOFEST Polar Research Project Competition, saying, "I would like to congratulate our high school students, their teachers and their families. Participating in such an expedition at high school age is actually one of the most important indicators of the vision Türkiye offers its young people for the future. Here is Turkish youth, here is the TEKNOFEST generation! With their excitement for scientific research extending to the poles, they will be Türkiye's bright future."

What Work Will the 10th National Antarctic Science Expedition Team Carry Out?

As part of the expedition, a team of 17 people, including 16 Turkish and 1 Bulgarian researchers, will carry out fieldwork for the TÜBİTAK Kutup 1001 projects. During the expedition, annual data will be collected from the low-frequency (VLF) measurement station established jointly with the USA, maintenance/upkeep work will be carried out at the Turkish Scientific Research Camp located on Horseshoe Island, long-term monitoring studies will be conducted, maintenance will be performed on our GNSS stations, and work will continue on the nautical charting of Horseshoe Island and its surroundings.

TÜBİTAK President Prof. Dr. Orhan Aydın Attends STS Forum in Japan

The STS Forum, which brings together leaders shaping the future of science and technology, was held in Kyoto, Japan. TÜBİTAK President Prof. Dr. Orhan Aydın participated in high-level meetings organized as part of the forum and exchanged views with international representatives.

TÜBİTAK President, Prof. Dr. Orhan Aydın, participated in high-level meetings held as part of the Science and Technology in Society (STS) Forum, which took place in Kyoto, Japan, between 4 and 7 October 2025.

Bringing together leaders shaping the future of science and technology, this year's Forum focused on the social impacts of artificial intelligence, sustainability, and strengthening science diplomacy.

Global Summit of Research Institute Leaders

Our TÜBİTAK President, Prof. Dr. Orhan Aydın, attended the Global Summit of Research Institute Leaders (RIL) meeting held on the first day of the forum. Held this year under the theme ‘Working Together to Strengthen Trust in Science,’ the summit brought together representatives from research institutions in 27 countries to exchange views on research safety, research ethics, reproducibility, and the development of open science.

Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Dr. Orhan Aydın emphasised that trust in science is as important today as science itself. Prof. Dr. Aydın said in his speech:

"Science is a universal value that brings people together beyond countries, languages and cultures. However, the permanence of this value depends on science being conducted openly, reliably and in interaction with society.

As TÜBİTAK, we are working to strengthen trust in science within the research ecosystem. Scientific integrity, ethical principles and data sharing form the basis of our institutional culture. The open science infrastructures we have developed enable research data and results to be shared in an accessible, verifiable and transparent manner.

We operate in rapidly developing fields such as artificial intelligence with transparency, adherence to ethical values and principles of social benefit.

President Aydın also made the following assessment:

"Strengthening trust in science requires listening to society and aligning our scientific priorities with the real needs and values of society. From public health to clean energy, from social resilience to everyday life expectations, the closer science is to people, the stronger the trust it gains."

Prof. Dr. Aydın concluded his speech with the following words:

‘Strengthening trust in science requires continuity. We are committed to making science reliable, high-quality and beneficial for everyone through openness, honesty and a participatory approach. We aim to further strengthen this effort through national and international collaborations.’

The participants agreed on the preservation of scientific integrity, increasing transparency and explainability in artificial intelligence, overcoming the boundaries between fundamental and applied research, and strengthening science's communication with society.
