A forest fire broke out in Brusio on Tuesday afternoon. Several firefighting helicopters and firefighters are deployed to combat the flames. The RhB railway line is closed until further notice, and a rail replacement bus service is in operation.

The report of the forest fire, which covered an area of ​​approximately two square kilometers between Campascio and Viano, was received on Tuesday at 3:40 p.m. Firefighting operations resumed on Wednesday morning after several fire watches were established throughout the night. In addition to the Brusio fire department and the Graubünden cantonal police, five helicopters from Swisshelicopter and Heli Bernina, as well as a Super Puma helicopter from the Swiss Air Force, are involved in the operation.

Extraordinary airspace closure

To avoid hindering firefighting efforts, the Federal Office of Civil Aviation BAZL (FOCA) ordered an extraordinary airspace closure until Thursday evening. Due to the risk of rockfall, the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) had to be closed. The road to Viano, about 200 meters from the fire, is also currently closed. Residents can reach the valley via the forest road. As a precaution, the nearby power line was switched off overnight; Viano is being supplied with electricity via a generator.

How does cancer actually develop, starting from just a single cell?

Many people imagine cancer as something that suddenly "appears."

However, the reality is much more subtle and complex.

Cancer often begins with a single cell and a small mistake.

Or more precisely: with several.

Our cells follow clear rules: They divide when necessary, they repair themselves when something is damaged.

And they stop when something stops working.

This system is highly precise.

Cancer develops when this control mechanism is gradually lost.

What exactly happens?

The accelerator pedal gets stuck.

(Proto-oncogenes)

Certain signals cause cells to divide. If these signals are permanently active, the cell continues to grow even though it shouldn't.

The brakes fail (tumor suppressor genes).

Other mechanisms stop growth and repair damage. If they stop working, control is lost.

The cell no longer dies.

Normally, defective cells self-destruct. Cancer cells circumvent this protective mechanism.

These changes don't happen all at once. They build up over years, and eventually the system collapses.

One cell becomes two, two become many, and many become a tumor.

Over time, something crucial happens:

These cells begin to sustain themselves. They ensure that new blood vessels form so they can continue to grow.

Cancer is therefore not a single mistake.

It is more of a process, a slow loss of control.

Or to put it another way: Cancer develops when cells cease to be part of a team as team players and begin to live only for themselves.

The closing meeting of the EU Solidarity Fund in Türkiye was held on 2 April 2026 in Ankara, at the Directorate for EU Affairs, on the occasion that the implementation of the Fund has been completed.

Opening speeches of the meeting were delivered by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Mehmet Kemal Bozay, Deputy Minister of Treasury and Finance Osman Çelik, Director Sofia Alves from the European Commission’s DG REGIO, and Chargé d'affaires ad interim of the EU Delegation to Türkiye Jurgis Vilčinskas and the representatives from public institutions which are responsible for the implementation of the Fund in Türkiye, as well as the Ambassadors and mission representatives from the EU member states attended the meeting.

The "European Union Solidarity Fund Delegation Agreement" signed between Türkiye and the European Commission on 7 February 2024 and 400 million Euros in funds were transferred to Türkiye from the EU Solidarity Fund to support reconstruction efforts in the earthquake zone following the earthquake disaster in February 2023. The Fund was used for the purchase of life containers, the reconstruction of hospitals and schools, drinking water and wastewater infrastructure, and the restoration of cultural heritage buildings in 6 provinces in the earthquake zone.

The largest addiction clinic for children and adolescents in Germany is closing.

From 2026 onwards, there will only be around 30 specialized therapy places for addicted children and adolescents in Germany.

A few days ago, Simon Schnetzer, Dr. Kilian Hampel, Klaus Hurrelmann and I presented our representative trend study “Youth in Germany 2026”:

-Around 60% of 14- to 29-year-olds exhibit problematic or addictive usage patterns (especially with smartphones).

-49% feel stressed, 36% exhausted.

-One in three reports needing psychological help.

-Up to 90% of affected young people do not receive therapy.

-Help often comes too late.

At the same time, we leave platforms largely unregulated whose systems are specifically designed for maximum use (endless scrolling, dopamine loops, algorithmic amplification).

We talk about mental health – but much of socialization now takes place on the platforms of large technology companies.

INTERPOL member countries are observing the International Day of Remembrance for Fallen Officers on 7 March, marking the sacrifice of police who have died in the line of duty

On 7 March, law enforcement and police forces across the world will come together in remembrance, honouring the service and calling of police officers everywhere and paying tribute to the women and men who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

INTERPOL has invited its member countries to stand together in marking the international day of remembrance by illuminating their most significant national landmarks in blue, the INTERPOL blue of global policing.

National ceremonies on the day include moments of silence, the lowering of the flag, the laying of wreaths, and the reading of the names of fallen officers.

Across time zones and all continents, from small communities to global capitals, coordinated acts of remembrance are being held, including the illumination of iconic landmarks in INTERPOL blue...

Hundreds of buildings including police headquarters, government ministries, and notable civic structures are also being lit in blue across the world to mark the remembrance.

Across countries and continents, flags will fly at half-mast, and police forces will mark the day with commemorative events reflecting their traditions and cultures, united by a shared respect for duty, loss, and the commitment by police officers in keeping others safe.

The scientific team, which conducted research on the White Continent as part of the 10th National Antarctic Expedition under the patronage of the President, under the responsibility of the Ministry of Industry and Technology and coordinated by the TÜBİTAK Polar Research Institute, has returned home.

The expedition consisted of a team of 17 people in total, including 16 Turkish and 1 foreign researcher.

Fifteen research projects were carried out.

Significant research has been carried out in numerous fields, including climate change, polar ecosystems, geosciences and atmospheric sciences; and international partnerships have been developed within the framework of science diplomacy.

Maintenance work was carried out at the Turkish scientific research camp on Horseshoe Island; in addition, the nautical chart studies were continued.

Annual data were collected from the low-frequency (VLF) measurement station established jointly with the USA; long-term monitoring studies were carried out; and maintenance work was performed on the GNSS stations.

High school students who had won first place in the TEKNOFEST TÜBİTAK polar research project competition also participated in the expedition and had the opportunity to test their projects in Antarctica.
