Unique in Austria: Nicole Ackermann becomes Endowed Professor of Economic Education
In an increasingly complex and globally interconnected world, we have to face challenges such as price instability, skills shortages, income inequality and climate change. Understanding the underlying economic relationships is an essential building block for the development and implementation of solutions.
General economic education is only anchored to a limited extent in Austria's schools. The mediation of economic contexts is now to be systematically researched and recommendations for action developed.
On the initiative of the Institute for Business and Vocational Education and with the support of financing partners from business and civil society, the Johannes Kepler University Linz was able to appoint Nicole Ackermann to Linz. The new chair is intended to expand teaching and research at the JKU in key areas of economic education – from consumer education and financial literacy to career and work orientation, entrepreneurship education, and business education and economics education.
The professorship was made possible by the generous support of partners from politics and business. Founding partners are the WIRTSCHAFTSKAMMER OSTERRECH, the ERSTE Foundation, the Sparkasse Oberösterreich, the Fabasoft AG, the Land Oberösterreich, the Stiftung für Wirtschaftsbildung, the Foundation for Innovation in Education and the Industriellenvereinigung Oberösterreich.
