Award for a pioneer of climate and environmental protection
Professor Dr. Ing. Wolfgang Günthert, former professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences at unibwm, was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit this week. Congratulations!
Professor Günthert, as a scientist and water protection expert, not only imparted specialist knowledge to young engineers but also instilled in them a sense of responsibility. He has now received the highest award Germany bestows for services to the common good: the Federal Cross of Merit.
The award is presented by the Federal President and was handed over by Bavaria's Environment and Consumer Protection Minister Thorsten Glauber on April 14th at the Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection.
In his laudatory speech, the minister described Professor Günthert as an "outstanding water expert and environmentalist" who, among other things, had warned early on about the growing risks posed by heavy and torrential rain as well as heat waves and droughts. Professor Günthert was already awarded the Bavarian State Medal for outstanding services to the environment in 2018.
