Congratulations to Tim Happel on his appointment as Professor at the Technical University of Munich.
Since 1 April 2026, IPP Director Prof. Dr Tim Happel has held the newly created Chair of Plasma Dynamics at TUM. The appointment further strengthens the long-standing collaboration between the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics and TUM in fusion research.
At IPP in Garching, Tim Happel heads the Plasma Dynamics Division. His work focuses on small-scale dynamic processes in plasma that often determine large-scale parameters such as efficiency and material load.
Understanding these processes is essential for assessing the feasibility and economic viability of future fusion reactors.
