The IT systems of states and municipalities play a critical role in the ability of the state and administration to act in Germany.

Claudia Plattner:

"To protect and ensure the resilience of the state, the economy and society – in other words, our civil defense in the digital space – we must industrialize cybersecurity. Thanks to this cooperation at the federal level, we can also involve the federal states and municipalities and work together on the automated defense against cyberattacks".

Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik (BSI):

Cooperation with states and municipalities: We are expanding sensor technology in cybersecurity.

In view of the tense cybersecurity situation, we are further expanding Germany's responsiveness and thus its resilience to IT security incidents.

The use of data sensors and real-time analytics is being expanded in cooperation with public IT service providers at the state and municipal levels. These tools serve, among other things, to detect anomalies in IT systems and thus function as an early warning system for cybersecurity incidents. The IT systems of states and municipalities play a critical role in the ability of the state and administration to act in Germany.

The project is considered one of the first steps towards a cyberdome for Germany. The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) and govdigital eG launched this collaboration with public IT service providers from ten federal states to improve cybersecurity in Germany.

The goal is to network the BSI with the so-called Security Operations Centers (SOCs), which monitor and protect IT infrastructures at the municipal and state level.

The aim is to jointly analyze threat intelligence. As a cooperative of public IT service providers, govdigital eG organizes the operational collaboration of IT service providers from states and municipalities – including in the field of cybersecurity.
