Four kidney transplants in seven days – robotically!

The result speaks for itself: rapid recovery, functioning transplants, discharge after a few days – without complications.

Media release from Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. univ. MBA Robert Öllinger:

Four kidney transplants in seven days – robotically!

What was an exception just a few years ago is increasingly becoming reality in Vienna.

At the Clinical Department of Transplantation of the Medical University of Vienna / the University Hospital AKH, four transplants were performed using the DaVinci system within one week: two after living donation, two after post-mortem organ donation.

The result speaks for itself: rapid recovery, functioning transplants, discharge after a few days – without complications.

The dedicated nursing team led by Natalie Libera and the surgical team led by Jakob Eichelter and Robert Öllinger have the most experience in the German-speaking world and are driving a development that has the potential to sustainably change transplant surgery.

The crucial question is no longer whether robotic transplantation will be performed – but how quickly this method will become more widely established.
