Bundesministerium für Landwirtschaft, Ernährung und Heimat
Press release from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Home Affairs:
Strong women – strong agriculture
In 2026, women in agriculture will be deliberately placed in the spotlight with the YearOfTheWomanFarmer.
They take on responsibility on farms, make a significant contribution to the future viability of agriculture, and strengthen regional value chains. However, structural obstacles such as traditional gender roles and the unequal distribution of care work continue to limit their potential.
That is why Federal Minister Alois Rainer invited us to our specialist conference:
How can women in agriculture and rural areas receive more targeted support?
What framework conditions do they need to combine career, family, and civic engagement?
And what opportunities does the new Common Agricultural Policy (GAP) after 2027 offer for empowering women in agriculture?
In specialist forums, female farmers, researchers, and experts discussed farm succession, leadership, equality, mobility, and social security. Personal insights were combined with successful practical examples – from mentoring programs to initiatives that strengthen the compatibility of family and career.
A big thank you to all participants – and to the Federal Ministry of Education, Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMBFSFJ) for the valuable contributions and support!
