“Red Alert” 106,000 victims among the Police Forces
We must understand the police as a mirror of our society. Anyone who insults or attacks police officers is attacking the foundation of security and social cohesion.
Press release from Jochen Kopelke, Federal Chairman of the GdP:
We leave no one alone!
What our colleagues are experiencing is shameful for our society. When the phrase 'shitt cop' or even death threats become part of everyday life, then something is fundamentally wrong. These people find themselves caught in the crossfire every day – for security, for democracy, and for the protection of others.
“Police as Target – Harassment, Hatred and Violence”
The Federal Criminal Police Office registered over 106,000 cases of victimization among police officers in 2024 alone – a figure that, according to the GdP (German Police Union), represents only the visible tip of the iceberg. The German Police Union (GdP) therefore calls for more prevention, better operational preparation and consistent prosecution of attacks and disrespect towards emergency personnel.
We must understand the police as a mirror of our society. Anyone who insults or attacks police officers is attacking the foundation of security and social cohesion. We need clear boundaries, clear judgments and above all solidarity — especially in politics and the media.
The GdP (German Police Union) is also appealing to all police employees to speak openly about their experiences and to seek help if the psychological strain becomes too great. Psychotherapists confirm that the psychological consequences of verbal and physical violence often extend far beyond the moment.
As a union, we stand in solidarity with every colleague. No one should have to be ashamed if their job leaves its mark.
"We leave no one alone", said Jochen Kopelke, Federal Chairman of the GdP.
