Yesterday we celebrated a special farewell

Yesterday we celebrated a special farewell. After an incredible 42 years at St. Josef Hospital in Vienna, Chief Physician Andreas Brandstetter, long-time head of the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics, will retire at the end of February 2026.

Since 1996, as head of department, he has significantly shaped obstetrics at the hospital – with a clear stance: as natural as possible, as safe as necessary.

A milestone in his career was the merging of the teams of the Göttlicher Heiland Hospital and the St. Josef Hospital Vienna – a challenge he mastered with personal commitment, willingness to engage in dialogue and great tact.

With the opening of the children's ward with neonatology in 2018/2019, our parent-child center was finally completed – for him an “absolute milestone for the care of mother and child”.

As a surgeon, he impressed with his comprehensive expertise and composure. As a leader, he distinguished himself through his calm demeanor, his humanity, and his respect. His credo encapsulates his approach: "People don't improve by being yelled at or harshly criticized; quite the opposite. However, when criticism is expressed respectfully, it has a positive effect on everyone involved."

We wish him all the best for the future!
