The Alanya Teaching and Research Hospital continues to successfully perform TAVI (transcatheter aortic valve implantation) procedures on its patients, adding another successful application to its advanced cardiological procedures. This method, which represents a significant alternative for high-risk patients undergoing open-heart surgery, allows the local population to access advanced cardiac treatments in their own city.
Thanks to the TAVI procedure, which is performed minimally invasively via the groin, aortic valve replacement can be carried out in patients with aortic valve disease without opening the chest or causing cardiac arrest. This allows for faster recovery and significantly reduces the risk of complications.
Dr. Cemal Köseoğlu, Associate Professor of Cardiology at the Faculty of Medicine of Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University, said of the procedure: “The TAVI method offers significant advantages, especially for patients with a high surgical risk. It is a safe and effective treatment option for elderly patients or those with additional health problems. This method represents a significant alternative for patients with lung, liver, or kidney dysfunction, or for those who have already undergone open-heart surgery. The procedure replaces the aortic valve without opening the chest or stopping the heart. This is usually done via the groin using a special catheter. As a result, patients recover more quickly, and the risk of complications is lower compared to open-heart surgery,” he said.
Köseoğlu emphasized that TAVI is among the most demanding and advanced procedures in invasive cardiology, explaining: “This procedure requires state-of-the-art technology, specialized training, and an experienced team.
