Minister Serge Papin

Trade negotiations for 2026 were concluded last night

Minister Serge Papin recounts the results of the trade negotiations for 2026:

The result: We will find controlled prices on supermarket shelves, with an expected average price increase of between 0% and 1%.

Nevertheless, the system is becoming unstable.

Despite low inflation and the introduction of a code of conduct, negotiations were once again strained. This is unsatisfactory.

Therefore two measures:

First: Consistent controls: The DGCCRF (French Directorate General for Competition Policy, Consumer Protection and Fraud Prevention) will conduct all necessary investigations, verify compliance with the law, and impose sanctions where appropriate. I will personally ensure this.

Secondly, the lessons from these three months are this: trade negotiations as they are currently being conducted in France do not address our challenges regarding sovereignty, ecological transformation, and the competitiveness of our industries. They do not offer our companies – especially our SMEs – the necessary planning certainty to invest in their production facilities. This would be beneficial, starting with purchasing power.

Instead of ignoring the problem until next December and the start of a new chaos, we should consider together: How can we create new negotiating conditions that benefit our industries?

This is the core of my task as head of this ministry, and I will be submitting corresponding proposals shortly, said Minister Serge Papin.
